Discover the heart of the Polders by bike this summer

From 25 May until 31 August 2026, Gistel, Koekelare and Middelkerke invite you to enjoy a unique cycling experience through the heart of the Polders. Together with Westtoer, they are organising the third edition of the cycling treasure hunt Harten van de Polders: two cycling routes filled with nature, heritage, art and hidden gems.

During this summer adventure, you will discover the best of three regions: the Bruges Ommeland, the Westhoek and the Coast. The routes take you along peaceful country roads, charming villages and remarkable places where nature, culture and relaxation come together.

Along the way, you will pass the unique MiGiKo point, where Middelkerke, Gistel and Koekelare meet. The cycling routes also lead you past several art exhibitions:

• Kunstwandeling (28 March until 31 July)
• Living Relics (20 June until 16 August)
• SPOOR 62 (1 July until 31 August)
• Echoes of a Line (1 July until 31 August)

The treasure hunt is ideal for families, recreational cyclists and anyone who enjoys exploring the region in a relaxed way. Along the route, you can enjoy authentic polder villages, green landscapes and plenty of enjoyable stops.

Win great prizes

Anyone who correctly completes at least one treasure hunt will have a chance to win one of 30 gift vouchers worth €50. Participants who complete both cycling routes will also have a chance to win an overnight stay at B&B Nieuwhof in Gistel.

The winners will receive an invitation by email during the week of 7 September 2026 for the prize ceremony on Saturday 19 September 2026 in Middelkerke.
