Gistel, Ichtegem, Koekelare, Kortemark, Torhout, Oudenburg and Zedelgem: each played its own, specific part during the First World War.
Through this route 't Groot Verzet (Top gear) everyone can meet the heritage and the stories that still remain in this region from that miserable period. Jump on your bike and hit the road in Koekelare or one of its neighbouring towns.
Still existing remnants tell their war story on-site. This way, you pass lost airports, pioneer and prisoner of war camps, field hospitals, former Commander's offices, cemeteries, memorials...
