Krekedal Route

As the name indicates, this route explores the valley of the Krekebeek, which together with the Handzame valley forms an eastern spur of the Yser basin. The tour starts in Diksmuide and first explores a piece of marshland. From there on, the route goes towards Koekelare, where, on the border with the Torhout Woodland, Ruiden mountain is climbed. The Kreke valley is sought once again in Kortemark. Names of forgotten seaports remind of the important role that the valley played in medieval trades.
