KOEKELARE REMEMBERS THE CENTENARY OF THE GREAT WAR

Koekelare is an important place for the commemoration of the centenary of the Great War. In our town, we have two large assets: the Käthe Kollwitz Museum and the Long Max Museum.

The Käthe Kollwitz Museum lets you meet the German artist of the same name, her son and her work. The museum approaches Käthe Kollwitz as the mother of her fallen son Peter. In the museum, you find a collection of original artworks by this German artist. Looking at her expressionist work you notice how she rebelled against the war and poverty.

After this visit, you get a combination of qualitative information and modern presentation techniques in the Long Max Museum on the former largest German canon that primarily shot at Dunkirk. The impressive artillery platform of the canon can be reached within walking distance.

Important: the group takes care of its own means of transport between the two museums (ca. 4 kms)
